I think in all seriousness that any account of Australian contemporary art has to begin and end with the yellow peril
post script - if i ever get a commission to make a public sculpture in australia i will remake the yellow peril
actually i would do it abroad too
Incidentally, I read that the term 'Yellow Peril' comes from Kaiser Wilhelm, who had a notorious revulsion for Asiatik peoples, but during the first world war, when the Germans were pitted against the anglo-saxon British and French, he re-identified the German's with the Asians and the Russians fighting a war against white supremecist Western European countries.
